G7 countries discuss disinformation campaign around coronavirus

US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo on Wednesday told reporters in Washington that members of the G7 were actively discussing a” disinformation campaign” about the coronavirus, which is allegedly conducted by China.

“There was a lot of discussion today among the G7 members about the disinformation campaign that China has been involved in and continues to be involved in. You can see both in social networks and from high-ranking Chinese officials that it was allegedly the United States. This is just crazy. Now China is selling fewer products and wants to put itself in a better light by trying to find the culprit. This is not the time to find the culprits. This is the time to find a solution,” Pompeo said.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said earlier that the US army could have brought the coronavirus to Wuhan, and called on the US to be frank, publish its data and explain everything. The US State Department then summoned Chinese Ambassador Cui Tiankai because of a “brazen disinformation campaign.”
