Former Trump adviser Roger Stone sentenced to 40 months in prison

A court in Washington has sentenced American political strategist Roger stone to almost three and a half years in prison. Stone was an adviser to US President Donald Trump during his 2016 presidential race.

According to the Washington Post, he gave false testimony, tried to interfere with the investigation by the US Congress and intimidated a witness.

The stone case was part of an investigation into cooperation between Russian intelligence agencies and Donald Trump’s campaign headquarters.

Stone was arrested on January 25 last year in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was considered one of Donald Trump’s closest associates. It was rumored that stone also tried to buy back materials stolen by hackers from WikiLeaks that could compromise Trump’s rival in the 2016 election and democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
