After a strong fall in global stock markets on Thursday, the fortune of the world’s 20 richest people fell by $ 78 billion, according to Forbes magazine.
“With the Dow Jones index showing its worst decline since 1987 and fears of a coronavirus causing global markets to fall, the world’s twenty richest people lost a total of more than $ 78 billion in a single day,” the magazine writes.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who is at the top of the list, lost $ 8 billion, his fortune is now $ 104.4 billion. The President of the Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy group of companies, Bernard Arnault, became poorer by $ 7.7 billion. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg lost $ 5.7 billion, and Oracle founder Larry Ellison’s fortune declined by $ 5.6 billion.
US exchanges on Thursday lost 9.5-10% after Donald Trump’s announcement of a 30-day ban on entering the US from Europe due to coronavirus. The ban takes effect on March 13. European stock exchanges also fell by 11-16.6%.
