Footballer was put on trial for a fake COVID-19 test

Brazilian footballer Senglea Athletic Carlos Rodriguez attempted to leave Malta using fake COVID-19 test results, The Malta Independent Online reports.

Rodriguez had a coronavirus swab on February 23. However, the footballer did not wait for the results and decided to forge a document to leave the country.

The footballer appeared in court on Saturday, February 27th. He was accused of providing an official with fake documents. Rodriguez plays for the Maltese Premier League club. The player found out about the team’s financial problems and decided that Senglea Athletic would not be able to pay him a salary. This is what dictated the athlete’s decision to leave Malta.

The Brazilian pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a year in prison. At the same time, the court’s decision was postponed for four years.
