Fire on a Mexican oil platform: five people were killed

The accident on the platform in the Gulf of Mexico occurred during maintenance work.

As a result of a fire on an offshore oil platform operated by the Mexican oil and gas giant Pemex, at least five people were killed, two were missing, and six others were injured, the state-owned company said.

Due to the fire, work was stopped on more than 100 oil wells, which this platform supplies electricity and natural gas, Pemex reported.

The incident occurred in the Bay of Campeche in the southern Gulf of Mexico during maintenance work.

One of the victims is in serious condition, the head of Pemex, Octavio Romero, said at a press conference.
