Ferguson explained his defeat by Gaethje at UFC 249

American mixed martial artist Tony Ferguson commented on his defeat by compatriot Justin Gaethje in the primary fight of the UFC 249 tournament in Jacksonville.

“My training camp was too long. I had twice to make weight, – Ferguson said. “Besides, Justin is damn good. I was preparing for a fight with Nurmagomedov, not for a fight with a drummer. This shouldn’t have happened. Anyway, I’m still in business. If the fight had not been interrupted, I would have reached the end.”

Gaethje dominated the entire match. He inflicted a lot of heavy blows, resulting in bruises and cuts on Ferguson’s face. In the fifth round, team representative Tony asked to stop the fight.
Gaethje defeated Ferguson by technical knockout in the fifth round in the primary fight at UFC 249 in Jacksonville and became the first contender for a title fight with the current UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. For Ferguson, this was the first defeat in eight years.

Initially, the UFC 249 tournament was scheduled for April 18; the primary fight was to bring together the organization’s lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Ferguson. Then the fight between Khabib and Tony broke down for the fifth time.
