On Monday, the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine received official FDA approval.
Other COVID-19 vaccines can receive full approval for use in the United States within a few weeks. A permit for vaccination of children under 12 years old can be issued as early as mid-autumn. U.S. chief infectious disease specialist Dr. Anthony Fauci said on Tuesday, a day after the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine received official approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Fauci, who heads the National Institute for the Study of Allergic and Infectious Diseases, said on MSNBC that the vaccines of Moderna and Johnson & Johnson would receive full FDA approval relatively soon. According to him, this can happen within a few weeks or a month.
As a leading American infectious disease specialist told on NBC News, there is a “good chance” that Pfizer or Moderna vaccines will be approved for young children before the winter holidays. “I hope this will happen by the middle or end of autumn or by the beginning of winter,” he said.
