Facebook blocked Trump until at least 2023

The social network announced a change in the policy regarding accounts belonging to world leaders.

The social network Facebook on Friday announced that the account of former US President Donald Trump will remain blocked until at least January 2023. The changes will also affect the pages of other world leaders that violate the company’s rules regarding publications on its website.

Recall that Trump’s Facebook account was blocked the day after the riots in the US Congress building that occurred on January 6. The social network concluded that Trump incited violence.

The statement of the social network emphasizes that the suspension of the account will last at least two years from the date of the initial blocking. The lockdown will only be lifted if the risk to public safety associated with maintaining the account is reduced, Facebook said. “Given the gravity of the circumstances that led to Trump’s blocking, we believe that his actions are a serious violation of our rules,” Nick Clegg, Facebook’s head of communications, wrote in a post on the social network.
