Experts told what currency is better to go to Cuba with

From June 21, Cuba will suspend the circulation of cash dollars, experts told how this measure will affect tourists, and with what currency it is better to go to the island.

Due to the tightening of US sanctions, the Cuban authorities announced a temporary ban on transactions with cash dollars. From June 21, they will not be accepted either for payment or in exchange for Cuban pesos. Tourists who plan a trip to the island are recommended to carry any other currency as cash, except the American one.

The adviser to the Ministry of Tourism of Cuba, Juan Carlos Escalona, said that it is best to take cash euros with you. They may be needed, for example, when buying excursions and fuel at a gas station, if travelers rent a vehicle.

Services in hotels, including Internet access, as well as purchases in shopping centers in resorts, can be paid with international bank cards.

The adviser clarified that excursions to Havana due to the situation with COVID-19 for foreign guests are not yet allowed, and a curfew continues to apply in the Cuban capital from 21 hours to 5 am.
