London’s FTSE index fell 0.4 percent, while the Paris CAC-40 and Frankfurt’s DAX fell 0.2 percent.
Asian markets closed mostly higher on Wednesday, with Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index adding 1.1 percent, Shanghai’s SSE 0.6 percent, South Korea’s KOSPI 1.7 percent, while Taiwan’s TSEC 50 remained unchanged and the S&P/ASX lost 0.4 percent. In Japan, the exchange is closed due to a national holiday.
US West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 3.4 percent to $ 24.40 a barrel, while benchmark Brent crude rose 24 percent to $ 31.74 a barrel.
Futures for the US Dow Jones, S&P 500 and NASDAQ indexes added 0.8 percent each.
