Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk has overtaken Mark Zuckerberg on the list of the richest people in the world. With a fortune of $115 billion, the American billionaire entered the three richest inhabitants of the Earth.
According to Bloomberg, Elon Musk entered the top ten richest people in the world just a month and a half ago – in July – as a result of a sharp rise in Tesla shares.
But at the end of summer, the company’s shares continued to rise in price, having risen in price by 500% since the beginning of the year. As a result, by August 17, Musk took the fourth line in the ranking, behind only Jeff Bezos (Amazon), Bill Gates (Microsoft), and Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook).
On August 31, Tesla split its shares, as a result of which each share fell five times. This procedure is carried out when the share price becomes too high in the hope of attracting new investors with little capital. If before the split, Tesla shares were $ 2,200 apiece, then after they could be bought for $ 450. At the same time, the automaker’s capitalization remained at the same level.
As a result, the market experienced a real boom in sales of Tesla shares. The company’s market value reached $464 billion, overtaking retail giant Walmart.
And Musk’s own fortune increased by $8 billion in just one day, adding $87.8 billion since the beginning of the year.
Now the rating of the wealthiest businessmen in the world according to Bloomberg looks like this:
- Jeff Bezos (Amazon) – $202 billion
- Bill Gates (Microsoft) – $125 billion
- Elon Musk (Tesla and SpaceX) – $115 billion
- Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook) – $111 billion
- Bernard Arnault (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy) – $85.7 billion
