Effective antibodies against coronavirus have been found

Scientists from Columbia University in New York have created a mixture of antibodies that can help neutralize the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. MedicalXpress reports this.

The scientific team found that patients with severe COVID-19 developed the most intense antibodies capable of suppressing the virus. According to one of the authors of the work, David Ho, the immune system of such patients reacted more strongly to the infection.

Scientists have identified various types of these neutralizing antibodies, a mixture of which protect coronavirus and can also help treat COVID-19 more effectively.

The team conducted an experiment on hamsters that confirmed the protective properties of the isolated antibodies. Scientists plan to do similar studies in other animals and humans in the future.
According to Ho, the resulting “cocktail” can be used by pharmacists to treat patients, especially in the early stages of the disease, as well as to prevent it.
