Drew Barrymore, 45, is not shy about talking about her dark past. The actress recently gave an interview to The Sun, where she reflected on how lucky she was with her career. Speaking about her new show, Drew noted:
I don’t know how I ended up in my place, but I will never forget that I was very lucky. After being blacklisted in Hollywood at age 12, I appreciate any job I get.
She got on the blacklist that Barrymore mentions because she was addicted to cocaine and marijuana from a very young age. She began acting at the age of seven. Drew’s mom, Jade, was a socialite and took her daughter with her to star parties. By adolescence, life under the spotlights began to weigh on Drew. And at the age of 12-14, she already had a reputation for being a “spoiled brat.”
Young Barrymore was even sent to a psychiatric hospital. In a recent episode of her show with Paris Hilton, Drew confessed that she was violent and her mom didn’t know what to do with her.
They took me away and took me to a solitary confinement cell, where I sat alone for a long time – sometimes a year, sometimes six months. I was violent, I made riots all the time, my mother did not know what to do with me. I took drugs and lost control of myself. Therefore, I was sent to this institution. And it saved my life,
– Drew said.
