Deb Haaland confirmed as US Secretary of the Interior

She became the first member of the cabinet – a representative of the Native American peoples.

The Senate confirmed Deb Haaland as Interior Secretary in the Joe Biden administration.

She will go down in history as the first Native American cabinet member.

51 votes decided in favor and 40 against.

Most Republicans voted against it after some lawmakers called her views on public land use and fossil fuels extreme.

This isn’t the first time Haaland has made history. In 2018, she became one of the first two Native American women to be elected to Congress.
