Coronavirus can destroy global fight against other diseases

Coronavirus can destroy the global fight against other diseases. This concern is expressed by experts from the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Since now all the medical forces of almost the whole world are thrown into the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, a wave of deaths from other viral diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis or cholera can occur in the world. Also at risk are WHO’s mission to fight malaria and polio.

For example, the Sudanese authorities transferred all planned programs for the fight against other diseases for an indefinite period, and all qualified doctors who used to deal with other diseases were transferred to patients with COVID-19. In addition, due to quarantine, many patients cannot be tested for various diseases, and patients and doctors cannot be admitted to clinics.

In Congo, coronavirus caused an outbreak of measles, which killed at least 6 thousand people due to the fact that the entire medical system is being rebuilt to combat coronavirus. A new wave of tuberculosis may begin in India, as the diagnosis was delayed until the pandemic ended. At the same time, India accounts for up to 35% of all cases of tuberculosis in the world.
