Democratic Congressmen Ted Lieu and Kathleen Rice asked the FBI to open an investigation into incumbent President Donald Trump after the publication of a recording of his phone conversation with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, reports NBC News.
The lawmakers sent a corresponding letter to the head of the department, Christopher Ray.
“As members of Congress and past prosecutors, we believe that Donald Trump was implicated in inciting or conspiring to commit some electoral crimes,” he said. We ask you to launch a criminal investigation against the president immediately,” the newspaper quotes the appeal’s text.
It is noted that the congressmen pointed to specific provisions of the country’s legislation and accompanied them with relevant excerpts from Trump’s telephone conversation, which, in their opinion, should indicate violations committed by the head of state.
