Chronicle of the pandemic. Italy came out on top in the number of victims of coronavirus

As of midnight on March 20, there are more than 240 thousand cases of coronavirus infection in the world; the number of victims exceeded 9.8 thousand people. China, where COVID-19 came from, has almost “recovered”, but in Europe, the “disease” is becoming more severe. This is evidenced by data from the online monitoring of the research center for systems science and engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (USA).

In Italy, 427 new COVID-19 fatalities were recorded in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths in the country was 3405 people — this is more than in China, where the spread of the coronavirus began and where 3245 people died. Thus, Italy became the first country in the world in terms of the number of victims of coronavirus infection. 41,035 cases of infection have been recorded in Italy since the outbreak began, and 4,440 people have recovered.

In addition to Italy, Spain (17,963 infected/830 victims/1,107 recovered) and Germany (15,320 infected/44 victims/113 recovered) had a difficult situation. The situation in France is slightly better — 10,871 infected/243 victims/12 recovered. However, the organizers of the Cannes film festival, which was supposed to take place in May, are not sure that the situation will stabilize — so the film festival was postponed.
Moreover, the Prince of Monaco switched to remote work from his apartments. He was diagnosed with a coronavirus. He became the first head of state to become infected with the coronavirus.

In the UK, which was opposed to strict quarantine measures, schools and several London underground stations will be closed from March 20. “We can reverse the course of events in the next 12 weeks and deal with the coronavirus if we all take the steps we have set out,” said Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Now, 2689 cases of coronavirus infection and 137 victims have been registered in the UK, and 65 patients have recovered. By the way, scientists have made conclusions about the effectiveness of quarantine in the fight against coronavirus.
