Deadline reports that Netflix has finished casting for a new sci-fi movie, Spider’s Head. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland) wrote the screenplay based on the story of the same name by George Saunders, and will be directed by Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion). The main roles in the film will be played by Chris Hemsworth, Jurnee Smollett and Miles Teller.
The action of the “Spiderhead” will unfold in the not too distant future, when convicted criminals will be offered the opportunity to shorten their sentences by working as experimental subjects in medical experiments. Two prisoners are asked to try drugs that affect emotions. As a result, the heroes are forced to fight their past.
Books by writer George Saunders have been featured on the New York Times bestseller list multiple times. Critics have compared his work to those of Kurt Vonnegut because of the unique combination of tragicomic elements with serious moral issues. The short story “Spider’s Head” was included in the collection of stories “December Tenth”, published in 2013.
