China says it has no interest in interfering in US elections

Earlier, Trump suggested that Beijing will seek its defeat in the elections in November.

China is not interested in interfering in the US presidential election, its representatives said on Thursday, after US President Donald Trump expressed the view that Beijing will try to achieve its defeat in the polls in November.

“The US presidential election is an internal matter, we have no interest in interfering in it,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told a daily news briefing.

“We hope that people from the US will not involve China in their election policy,” he added.

In an interview with Reuters, Trump said that China “will do everything possible” to make sure it loses the election, noting that, in his opinion, Beijing wants its opponent, Democrat Joe Biden, to win the election.
