China has discovered a flu virus that could potentially cause a pandemic

The virus is genetically linked to the H1N1 strain.

Researchers in China have discovered a new type of swine flu that can cause a pandemic. This is stated in a study published in the American scientific journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The virus, named G4, is a genetic descendant of the H1N1 strain that caused the pandemic in 2009.

It has “all the essential characteristics that indicate high adaptability to human infection,” the authors write – scientists from Chinese universities and the Chinese Center for disease control and prevention.

G4 has been observed to be highly infectious, multiplying in human cells, and causing more severe symptoms than other viruses.
Tests have also shown that the immunity acquired by a person after seasonal flu does not protect G4.
