China demanded to close the US Consulate General in Chengdu

Chinese authorities have demanded that the US Consulate in the city of Chengdu, Sichuan province, cease its activities, Free News reported, citing a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

As the Chinese Ministry stressed, this demand is a legitimate and necessary response, and responsibility for what is happening lies with Washington.

Earlier, the US ordered China to close the Consulate General in Houston. State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said that Washington gave this order to ensure the protection of intellectual property and personal information of Americans.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry called this a political provocation and promised to take retaliatory actions.
