CD Projekt has promised to support Cyberpunk 2077 after the release, not only with patches, but also with content additions. In 2021, the game should receive the first DLC, but the multiplayer component may never reach the players.
The CEO of CD Projekt himself, Adam Kichinsky, hinted at this. During a conversation with investors, the boss of the company noted that the team has reconsidered its attitude towards the multiplayer Cyberpunk 2077.
“We previously hinted that our next AAA project would be a multiplayer Cyberpunk game, but we redefined that point.”
As Kiczynski explained, the company has adopted a more flexible approach to development. So instead of focusing primarily on one big online “experience” or game, they focused on incorporating online into all of their franchises someday.
“Therefore, we are currently working on certain features to improve our single-player games, but we are not working on releasing the next game as a large online excipience. So with the help of multiplayer components we will improve our single-player games, ”said the CEO of CD Projekt.
Translated from corporate to human, this may mean that CD Projekt is not planning large-scale individual multiplayer projects. Still, some kind of network functions, like co-op, leaderboards and other things, may appear in the studio’s single games.
And judging by the first leaks, the online mode for Cyberpunk 2077 was quite voluminous, and included robbery missions, Deathmatch, and the class system. Therefore, most likely, CDPR has already abandoned a project of this scale, at least for the first time.
