Catholic Church may excommunicate Biden from communion

The Catholic bishops of the United States intend to prepare a document according to which politicians who support abortion and euthanasia can be banned from receiving communion.

The relevant document was discussed by the American clergy at the General assembly of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of the United States. It applies to all Catholics who hold socially significant positions. First of all, it falls under the American President Joe Biden, who, according to media reports, participates in mass weekly and at the same time openly supports abortion.

“The Eucharist (communion) is Christ himself. This is a person that we meet,” Apostolic Nuncio (Vatican Ambassador) to the United States Christophe Pierre said during the plenary session. His words are quoted by the official website of the Conference.

Biden has previously been excommunicated from communion – in 2019. However, the church ban was short-lived. Despite this, the problem was not resolved. So, the scandal was caused by a congratulatory letter from the head of the Conference of Catholic Bishops, Jose Gomez, on the occasion of the inauguration at the end of January. In his message to the president, the cleric recalled that the head of the White House “promised to pursue policies that will promote moral evil, threaten human life and dignity, especially in the areas of abortion, contraception, marriage, and gender.”
