Canada bans drone-related technology exports to Turkey

Ottawa said that the transferred technologies were used in Nagorno-Karabakh in violation of Ankara’s guarantees.

Canada has revoked permits to export drone-related technology to Turkey, concluding that the equipment was used by Azerbaijani forces fighting Armenia in Nagorno-Karabakh.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Marc Garneau.

“Such use was not consistent with either Canada’s foreign policy or the end–use guarantees given by Turkey,” Garneau said in a statement.

He added that he had expressed his concern to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Canada suspended the permits last October.
