Canada and the United States have begun negotiations on opening the border

According to the CBC, a decision could be made in the summer.

Representatives of the authorities of Canada and the United States have begun negotiations on the lifting of existing restrictions on the Canadian-American border, which were introduced against the backdrop of the new coronavirus pandemic. This was reported by the CBC TV channel.

According to him, at the first stage, they do not yet involve politicians who will have to make a final decision. The source of the TV channel noted that the decision on lifting the restrictions will not be made soon, but expressed hope that this may happen in the summer.

The Canada-US border closed at midnight on March 21, 2020, Ottawa time, and a ban was imposed on all non-mandatory movements of citizens of the two countries, in particular, tourist trips are prohibited. As Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said at the time, these restrictions will last until the parties are confident in the safety of the usual regime of movement of citizens across the border. The current agreement between Canada and the United States runs until May 21.
