Boston Dynamics robot dog tested in Chernobyl

The famous robot dog Spot of the American company Boston Dynamics visited Ukraine.

According to the State Agency for the Management of the Exclusion Zone on its Facebook page, researchers at the University of Bristol, together with specialists from the State Specialized Enterprise Central Enterprise for Radioactive Waste Management (GSP TsPPRV), used Spot in Chernobyl to detect areas with radioactive contamination.

In particular, radiometric and geophysical work was carried out on the territory of two sectors of the “Red Forest” temporary localization point for radioactive waste and on the territories of the “Podlesny” and “Buryakovka” radioactive waste disposal sites.

Also for this, unmanned aerial vehicles, ground-based robotic systems, sensors-scanners were used to assess the distribution of radioactive materials in an area and in space, including photogrammetry, lidar, gamma spectrometer, hyperspectral and neutron sensors.

As a result, the researchers will receive 3D images of contaminated areas and maps of the distribution of radionuclide activity.

As a reminder, Boston Dynamics recently launched Spot Sales on its website. But the robot is not cheap – $74500.
