The United States is ready to support the Minsk and Normandy formats on Ukraine, but much depends on Moscow, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in an interview with Spiegel.
According to him, in 2015 and 2016, the United States agreed that the Normandy format plays a central role in promoting the Minsk peace process. However, according to the Secretary of State, Russia for the most part did not fulfill the results of the process. At the same time, Russia has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to the conflict in Ukraine and is a subject of the Minsk settlement agreements.
“President Biden discussed this with President Putin, as well as with Chancellor Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron. At the same time, we presented the following point of view: if Russia is seriously interested in filling Minsk with life, and we can help at the same time, then we are 100% ready for this,” the Secretary of State said.
As Blinken noted, everything depends on whether Russia really wants this. “I hope that Russia is really serious about the Minsk process. In this case, the Normandy format will continue to play a central role, and we are ready to cooperate and contribute to it. But everything depends on Moscow,” the Secretary of State said.
