The best way to resist countries is to make serious investments in American infrastructure, the US Secretary of State stressed.
“It is no secret to any of us that the governments of China and Russia, in particular, publicly and privately claim that the United States is in decline, and therefore it is better to focus on their authoritarian vision of the world than on our democratic legislation,” he argued. “We can, and we remind them that we are still a powerful country,” Blinken said.
In his opinion, the best way to counter these arguments is to make “serious investments right now” in American infrastructure. The Secretary of State called such investments “a foreign policy priority because they expand the possibilities of diplomacy” in Washington. He said that “China spends three times more on infrastructure every year” than the United States.
“Whether America will protect and invest in its own forces at home depends on whether we remain strong and whether we will ensure a result for the American people,” Blinken believes.
He also stressed that it is impossible to participate in international trade without investing in your own economy. “We are competing in the field of trade. We thought that we could trade more with the whole world and invest less here at home for too long. It did not benefit our economy, our employees, or our society,” the Secretary of State believes.
Now the US Congress is considering a plan to develop the country’s infrastructure worth about $ 1 trillion. The initiative allocates $ 550 billion of federal funds for this purpose over five years.
