Blinken: all participants of the “Nord stream-2” project risk being sanctioned

The Secretary of State stressed that the administration considers the pipeline a geopolitical project of Russia.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stressed that the administration of President Joe Biden is committed to complying with the sanctions regime for the “Nord stream-2” project and warned that any persons involved in the construction of the pipeline risk being sanctioned.

“As the president said, “Nord stream-2” is a bad deal for Germany, for Ukraine, and our allies and partners from Central and Eastern Europe. The State Department is monitoring efforts to complete the construction of the “Nord stream-2″ gas pipeline and is evaluating information about legal entities that are apparently involved in this process,” Blinken said.

“As several US administrations have made clear, this pipeline is a Russian geopolitical project aimed at splitting Europe and weakening European energy security,” the foreign Minister recalled. “The Sanctions Act, passed by Congress in 2019 and expanded in 2020, enjoys significant bipartisan support in Congress.” “The Biden administration is committed to complying with this legislation. The State Department once again warns that any persons involved in the construction of the “Nord stream-2″ pipeline risk falling under US sanctions and must immediately stop work,” the Secretary of State stressed.
