Biden instructed to assist Israel in connection with the tragedy on Mount Meron

According to the American president, the authorities are working on reports that US citizens could have been killed or injured.

US President Joe Biden instructed the administration to assist Israel in connection with the tragedy on Mount Meron during the Lag B’Omer holiday. This is stated in a statement issued on Friday by the White House press service of the American leader.

“I have instructed my team to offer our assistance to the Government and the people of Israel. We are also working on reports that U.S. citizens may have been killed or injured,” Biden said. “The U.S. Embassy will provide all necessary assistance to American citizens and their families affected by this tragedy.”

As a result of the stampede during the religious holiday of Lag B’Omer on Mount Meron, which is located near the city of Safed in northern Israel, 45 people were killed and 150 injured. Lag B’Omer is celebrated on the 18th of the month of Iyar according to the Jewish lunar calendar, which this year fell during the period from sunset on April 29 to late evening on April 30.

In Israel, May 2 is declared a day of national mourning.
