Biden congratulated Newsom on retaining the post of governor of California

According to The New York Times, after counting 70% of ballots, 63.9% of the state’s residents voted against the governor’s resignation.


U.S. President Joe Biden congratulated the Democratic governor of California, Gavin Newsom, on the fact that he retained his post following the results of the voting in the state. The corresponding statement was distributed on Wednesday by the press service of the White House.


“Congratulations to Governor Gavin Newsom, who managed to emerge victorious from the resignation vote. This vote represents a resounding victory for the approach that we share in the fight against the pandemic,” the message reads.


The head of the White House noted that both his fellow Democrats and Republicans voted for Newsom.


According to the latest data published by The New York Times newspaper, after counting 70% of ballots, 63.9% of the state’s residents voted against the governor’s resignation, 36.1% voted for it.
