Biden congratulated Americans on the upcoming Father’s Day

The tradition of celebrating Father’s Day originated in the United States in the early twentieth century.

US President John Biden signed a proclamation declaring Sunday, June 20, Father’s Day. This is stated in the message of the White House.

“Father’s Day is the time when we should congratulate our fathers who carry us on their shoulders and change our lives for the better,” the presidential proclamation reads. “We thank our dads who have mentored, taught, coached, cared for, and supported us through life’s trials and tribulations.”

In addition, Biden recalled, this day can be difficult for many people who have lost a father, grandfather, stepfather, or for fathers who have lost their own child.

“In the past year, too many families have lost their fathers prematurely in time… pandemics. Today, our thoughts are with them, and we honor their legacy and their memory daily,” Baden said in a statement.

The tradition of celebrating Father’s Day, which is now celebrated in many countries around the world, originated in the United States. The initiator of the first holiday, which took place on June 19, 1910, was Sonora Smart Dodd, a resident of Spokane, Washington. In this way, she expressed gratitude to her father, William Smart, a Civil War veteran who raised six children alone after the death of his wife. In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson first declared the third Sunday in June a national holiday – Father’s Day. On this day, residents of the United States express respect for family values, showing honor to male fathers.
