Benedict Hövedes announces his retirement

Former German defender Benedict Höwedes has announced the end of his professional football career, Spiegel reports.

The last club of the 32-year-old player was Lokomotiv Moscow, with which he terminated his contract in early June this year. During his career, Benedict also played in Juventus and Schalke 04, of which he is a graduate.

Höwedes was called up to the German national team from 2011 to 2017. With the national team, he became world champion in 2014 and also won bronze medals at the European Championships in 2012 and 2016.
