One hundred years in 6 months. To celebrate for the Fip with a record in Europe as the best National Basketball Federation on Instagram and with a clothing collection by Spalding created ah hoc for the event. This is the way for the Italian Basketball Federation (Fip) to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its constitution on November 2nd with a series of special initiatives. It was in fact 1921 when 10 Milan clubs approved the Statute of the Italian basketball federation, converging on Arrigo Muggiani as the first president of the new body.
Spalding and the Italian Basketball Federation therefore celebrate 100 years of Italian basketball with a dedicated lifestyle capsule collection. From 1921 to today, many people have contributed to writing the pages of this long history: players, players, coaches, managers, referees, journalists, fans and enthusiasts of all ages and at all levels. The collection wants to be a tribute to them, and to all the people who today cultivate a love for this sport, becoming in turn part of this centenary history.
The Spalding x Fip Centenario collection
There collection it includes a varsity-style jacket, a tribute to the American world where the game originated; a warm up jacket inspired by the warm-up jackets of the 80s; one shorts in loose weave mesh; crewneck sweatshirts and t-shirts, available in both men’s and women’s cuts. Seven garments characterized by golden thread embroidery and the “I” patch: a reference to both “Italy” and the “First Century” of local basketball.
After theinvestigation del Sole 24 Ore of 12 April 2021, in which the Fip was second on Instagram (after the FIGC) in terms of engagement, the Italian Federation continued to compare itself with the other European national basketball federations. In fact, an analysis was carried out by the Fip itself on the month of November 2020, when all the major European basketball federations had 2 windows for the national teams: that of the women’s national team in mid-month for the EuroBasketWomen 2021, and that of the Men’s National Team at the end of the month for the qualification a EuroBasket 2022. These 2 events, with a global calendar of sporting events modified and very different between the various disciplines, were taken into consideration precisely to have a term of comparison with those who have had the same events and media peaks.
The result is that, thanks both to the quality of the shared contents and to the communication initiatives implemented specifically for the context of the “bubbles” (despite the restrictions that limited access to content producers), the Fip was the best Federation on Instagram for total engagement (507,303) and engagement rate (4,925), followed on the podium by France (294,610 and 4,149 respectively) and Greece (172.190 and 3.444).
The initiatives of November 2020
In particular, the 2 initiatives gave national visibility in the days of the windows: the first with the Azzurre, when the Fip had each of the 14 called up “adopt” a girl who was sent home a shirt of her favorite player. The second with the Azzurri, when 5 rookies were “surprised” with exciting videos made by their families and their former coaches in the youth teams, in which they congratulated on the great achievement.
