Baku called the French Senate resolution on Karabakh an ordinary piece of paper

Azerbaijan regards the French Senate’s resolution on Karabakh as an ordinary piece of paper, Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev told.

The French Senate on Wednesday passed a resolution by an absolute majority calling on the government to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh. This document is intended as a recommendation.

“First of all, we would like to emphasize that this resolution is nothing but an ordinary piece of paper for Azerbaijan. This piece of paper, adopted in the name of narrow political ambitions, along with a gross violation of international law, the UN Charter and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, raises serious questions about France’s intentions and objective activities both as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk group. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council,” Hajiyev said.

Hajiyev added that Baku regards the adoption of this resolution “as a very shameful step for France’s politics and parliamentarian.”

“The French government should express its official position on the inadmissibility of such provocative steps and express support for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan by adopting a statement condemning the resolution,” the Azerbaijani presidential aide said.
