Ashkenazi and Blinken discuss working group for West Bank projects

Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed the creation of a joint working group to promote humanitarian and civil projects in the West Bank during a working meeting in Jerusalem on Tuesday. This is reported by the state-run Israeli radio Kan.

According to the radio station, the foreign ministers of the two countries agreed to establish such a group shortly to promote the development of the Palestinian economy in the West Bank.

Commenting on the results of the meeting on Twitter, Ashkenazi called the United States Israel’s closest ally. “Over the past two weeks, the United States has reaffirmed that it is our closest ally. [At the meeting], I thanked US Secretary of State Blinken for his country’s full and unwavering support and continued recognition of Israel’s right to protect its citizens, ” he wrote. The Foreign minister of the Jewish state also called the meeting with Blinken “extremely important”, adding that it was about the results of the operation “Guardians of the Walls,” which was conducted by the Israeli Armed Forces in the Gaza Strip, as well as “regional problems.” In turn, the press service of the US State Department informed that during the meeting with Ashkenazi Blinken confirmed “the firm commitment of the United States to the security of Israel and the partnership between the two countries.” He stressed that he had come to the Middle East “to make progress in resolving the humanitarian situation in Gaza and launching the process of rebuilding the sector, as well as to establish relations with the Palestinian community and the Palestinian authorities.” He also expressed the hope that he “will be able to steer the situation in a positive direction and achieve tangible progress for both Israelis and Palestinians.”
