An Instagram glitch could help Trump in the presidential race

The social network Instagram, due to a technical glitch in the work of algorithms, for at least two months when requesting hashtags associated with US President Donald Trump, did not show content that relates to his alleged electoral competitor Joe Biden, according to the Buzzfeed portal.

Social network algorithms should work in such a way that when searching for hashtags, the platform should offer the user content related to this topic. According to the portal, this week, when requesting the hashtag #JoeBiden and other topics related to Biden, the social network also showed “pro-Trump” content. That said, when requesting Trump-related topics, Instagram “only showed certain hashtags, such as #MAGA or #Trump.”

As the portal notes, this means that when searching for hashtags associated with Biden, users could see content with the “opposite message”, whereas when requesting pro-Trump hashtags, this did not happen.

Social media spokeswoman Raki Wayne called the difference in search results a glitch.

“As a result of a technical error, some of the requests did not display the associated hashtags. We disabled this feature while investigating (the problem),” she said.

Several thousand hashtags have been affected by this problem, she said. At the same time, she did not specify how long the failure was observed and why he touched hashtags related to Trump and did not touch on content related to Biden.
