An armed man was detained near the Capitol

Knives, a machete, and a bayonet were found in the car of Donald Craighead from California.

Capitol police said that on Monday night, a California resident was detained near the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee in Washington, where several knives, a bayonet, and a machete were found in his car.

According to the patrolmen, around midnight, they noticed a truck with a swastika and other symbols of the ideology of white supremacy. Instead of a license plate on the car, there was an image of the American flag.

In Washington, it is forbidden to carry bayonets and machetes. According to police, the detainee, 44-year-old Donald Craighead from Oceanside, California, said he was “patrolling” the neighborhood. Craighead was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.

The police are still investigating.

Since hundreds of former President Donald Trump supporters broke into the Capitol building on January 6, increased security measures have been in place in this area.
