The man purchased both tickets in a digital format.
A US resident won $2 million in the lottery by purchasing two identical tickets by mistake. This was reported on its website by the portal Michigan Live.
The winner was a 56-year-old resident of Dearborn Heights (Michigan), Samir Mozahem. For a long time, he bought paper tickets, adhering to a strict sequence of numbers consisting of his family members’ birthdays.
In the summer of 2020, Mazahem purchased an e-ticket on the Mega Millions lottery website. After paying for the purchase, he remembered that he wanted to save the combination of numbers in his profile settings for convenience. When he revisited the lottery website, he entered the permanent ones but accidentally purchased a second ticket the same.
“When I realized that I bought two identical ones, I was a little upset, but there was nothing to do,” the man says.
He remembered about his purchase only recently. However, when I went to the site, I found that his prize account has $2 million. It turned out that in this lottery draw, Mazahem’s ticket brought him a prize of $1 million, and he had two of them.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes. It took me a few days to realize that my mistake brought me $2 million,” says lucky.
The man chose to take the entire amount, paying the appropriate taxes. With the winnings, he plans to buy a new house and save the future’s remaining amount.
