Amy Coney Barrett confirmed as a Supreme Court justice

She took the place of Ruth Ginsburg, who died in September.

The Republican-controlled upper house of the US Congress helped President Trump win a major political victory before the election by approving Amy Coney Barrett as a justice of the US Supreme Court.

Senators who voted mostly along party lines to confirm Barrett for life overcame the Democrats’ opposition, creating a conservative majority on the six-judge Supreme Court.

Barrett’s confirmation strengthens one of the most conservative Supreme Court justices in the United States history.
