US residents will receive money from the Federal government within the next two weeks, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has promised.
The Federal government is going to send financial assistance to all US residents as soon as possible to mitigate the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
“I think we will make sure that the money is received [by Americans] as quickly as possible,” President Donald Trump said during a news conference held at the White House.
“The President has instructed me to do this right now,” confirmed Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who also participated in today’s press conference. “We’re going to send the checks to the Americans immediately. I mean, that it will happen now, in the next two weeks.”
The Trump administration is seeking to get Congress to approve an $ 850 billion financial injection into the economy, including $ 250 billion in small business loans, and $ 50 billion to bail out American airlines as part of a package of economic stimulus measures.
These measures can be taken in addition to the $ 100 billion package already approved by the House of Representatives. Thanks to this bill, Americans will be able to get sick leave, unemployment benefits and other benefits in connection with the blow to the economy associated with the spread of COVID-19.
In the United States, more than 5,000 cases of coronavirus infection are currently known, and 96 people have died. The largest number of deaths was recorded in the States of Washington and New York.
