AI-based nanosensor taught to track biological molecules

Scientists in the United States have developed AI-based nanosensors that allow researchers to track different types of biological molecules without disturbing them.

The researchers explained that the world of biomolecules is rich in fascinating interactions between many different agents. For example, proteins, lipid complexes, DNA and carbohydrates. However, the ways in which biomolecules meet and interact are extremely complex.

New innovative technology uses nanotechnology, meta-surfaces, infrared radiation, and artificial intelligence (AI). Details of the development can be seen in the scientific publication Advanced Materials.

Meta-surfaces are human-made materials with enhanced nanoscale light manipulation capabilities that allow us to perform functions that go beyond what we see in nature. Here, their precisely engineered meta-atoms made from gold nanorods act as amplifiers of light-matter interactions, connecting to plasmonic excitations resulting from collective vibrations of free electrons in metals.

When scientists augmented infrared meta-surfaces with AI, the new sensor began to be used to analyze biological processes and their dynamic interactions.
