A state of emergency has been declared in the US capital

The mayor of the American capital has issued declarations giving her special powers to fight the coronavirus.

Washington mayor Muriel Bowser declared a state of emergency after the number of detected cases of coronavirus in the US capital reached 10 and authorities recommended that events involving 1,000 or more people be postponed or canceled.

“We are not in a vacuum. Our country is experiencing this situation, as is our entire world,” Bowser said at a press conference.

Bowser declared a state of emergency and a public health emergency.

These declarations give it the power to order quarantines, request Federal assistance, and take measures to limit the price of vital goods.

The city rented the building for a possible quarantine center, but officials declined to disclose its location.
