A service for creating viral particles for genetic preparations appeared in Russia

Russian scientists call their own service for the production of viral particles (vectors) a real achievement. Indeed, in the past, to create targeted pharmaceuticals required for the treatment of genetic diseases, all compounds were ordered in other countries from foreign colleagues.

Experts from the NTI Competence Center, which operates on the basis of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry named after academicians M.M.Shemyakin and Yu.A. Ovchinnikov (IBCh RAS), took part in the creation of a service for the production of viral vectors. As microbiologists clarify, we are talking about creating our own technology, which did not exist in Russia before.

Viral vectors are used as a vehicle for the delivery of genetic material into cells. This method is necessary when creating drugs for the treatment of complex and rare genetic diseases, for example, spinal muscular atrophy.

‚ÄúResearchers at the NTI Competence Center on the basis of the IBCh RAS have developed a domestic technology for creating viral vectors that can become a tool for delivering genetic material into cells for the treatment of rare diseases. On its basis, the first Russian service for the production and purification of recombinant adeno-associated viral particles was created. Earlier, Russian scientists ordered these compounds abroad. “

The technology for the production of viral particles is based on the technological process of creating a virus in a cell culture with subsequent purification and concentration.

Modern targeted drugs, as mentioned above, are based on the technology of delivering the “genetic load” directly to the desired cells. Researchers are looking for genes that can control the function of cells “responsible” for certain diseases.
