A possible successor to Merkel called for the freezing of the “Nord stream-2”

The candidate for the presidency of the Christian Democratic Union Party and a possible successor to Angela Merkel as German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, called for a two — year moratorium on the construction of “Nord stream-2,” he said, speaking at an event of the CDU youth organization in the Federal state of lower Saxony, the tabloid BILD reports.

“I believe that we should finish the construction. <…> We should not become too dependent on energy supply either from the Americans or from Russian gas,” the publication quotes Merz as saying.

According to the publication, Merz “linked this to the call for a two-year moratorium” on the construction of “Nord stream- 2.”
