A nurse was detained on charges of killing eight babies in Britain

Police in the British city of Chester announced the arrest of an employee of a local hospital on charges of killing eight babies and ten attempted murders.

Countess of Chester Hospital employee Lucy Letby was detained on Tuesday after the local police obtained an arrest permit from the UK Crown Prosecutor’s Office, according to a statement from city police. The charges were brought in as part of an ongoing investigation into a series of childhood deaths and accidents in the neonatal ward of the hospital between June 2015 and June 2016.

The defendant is currently in custody and is due to appear before a court on November 12.

Nurse Lucy Letby was arrested on July 3, 2018, as part of an investigation into the deaths of 17 children in the neonatal ward of Countess of Chester Hospital. She was charged and then released on bail. The nurse was reported to have cooperated with the investigation. Later, the police in the English county of Cheshire brought charges against the nurse for the murder of three more children.

The investigation began in May 2017, initially investigating 15 deaths in the hospital between June 2015 and June 2016, but the police became interested in the circumstances of accidents (falls) with six more children that occurred during the same period.
