An unknown person seriously injured a police officer in the Central Prefecture of police in Paris, across the street from Notre Dame Cathedral. The policeman died from his injuries.
According to the latest reports, the attacker himself was an administrative officer of the Prefecture.
Another officer killed him.
“One of our colleagues was killed in a knife attack. Another colleague is in a state of shock, and the attacker was killed by another police officer,” said Loik Traver, the head of the Police Union.
Local press reports that an armed man entered a police station in Central Paris around noon local time and attacked a police officer with a knife.
The nearby Cité metro station is closed for security reasons and the area has been cordoned off.
French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner and Prime Minister Edouard Philippe went to the scene.
