A 68-bed hospital set up by a Christian humanitarian organization will treat patients with coronavirus.
New York’s overloaded health care system will soon get some help after the arrival of a Navy hospital ship to care for ordinary patients and the deployment of a new field hospital to work with those infected with the coronavirus.
A 68-bed field hospital is being created in the city’s iconic location, Central Park.
Governor Andrew Cuomo said the hospital is scheduled to open on Tuesday.
The project is backed by the US-based global Christian humanitarian organization Samaritan’s Purse.
The organization says the hospital will employ a team of doctors and nurses from the Mount Sinai Health System hospital network.
A similar hospital is already operating in the virus-affected North of Italy.
In New York, there are more than 33 thousand cases of coronavirus and almost 800 deaths.
