40 people were killed in clashes between Hamas and Israeli security forces

We are talking about the most serious fighting in the region since 2014.

At least 40 people were killed in the Gaza Strip and Jerusalem as clashes between Hamas and Israeli security forces escalated on Wednesday.

Israel launched a new series of airstrikes on Gaza early Wednesday, targeting police and security forces.

The Israeli military said the strikes targeted rocket launch sites, intelligence offices, and the homes of Hamas leaders.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 35 people were killed in the shelling. More than 200 people were injured by the airstrikes.

Meanwhile, five Israelis were killed in Hamas rocket attacks on Tuesday and Wednesday night, including two people in the city of Ashkelon.

Since Monday, Hamas has fired hundreds of rockets at Tel Aviv and its surrounding area, including 130 rockets on Tuesday evening.
