3.5 thousand American companies filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration

The plaintiffs consider it illegal to increase duties on Chinese imports.

About 3.5 thousand American companies, including Tesla, Ford Motor, Target, Walgreen, and Home Depot, filed a lawsuit. The plaintiffs allege that US Federal authorities – named as defendants by US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and the US Border and customs service-illegally increased customs duties on Chinese goods.

According to the lawsuit, the US administration violated previously established rules on introducing tariffs and violated several procedures.

The administration of Donald Trump argues that the increase in duties is justified since China continues to steal American intellectual property and obliges American companies to provide access to their technologies in exchange for the right to work in the Chinese market.

In September, the World Trade Organization concluded that the US violated global trade rules by raising tariffs on Chinese goods as part of a trade war with China.
